2021 GPAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday
(Sioux City, Iowa) - The 2021 GPAC Cross Country Championships, Powered by Two West, will be hosted by Northwestern College and will take place on Saturday, November 6 in Orange City, Iowa. The event will be held at the Landsmeer Golf Course in Orange City.
The women's 5K race will start at 10:45 a.m., with the men's 8K race beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Dordt's men and women were the 2020 GPAC Champions with last year's event taking place in Yankton, South Dakota. Taylor Anema of Dordt University won the women's individual title with a 5K time of 18:50.24 in 2020, while Shawn Kiptoo from Doane University won the men's title with a time of 25:44.75 on the 8K course.
Coming into Saturday Dordt's women are ranked 14th in the NAIA, with Concordia ranked 21st. The Hastings and Doane women are receiving votes. On the men's side Dordt is ranked 13th in the NAIA.
The GPAC women will have two automatic qualifiers to the NAIA Championship with 12 member schools. The second-place team must be ranked in the top 30 in the NAIA poll. Individually for the women the top six individuals, not on a qualifying team, finishing in the top 20 advance to Nationals. For the men only one team will be an automatic NAIA qualifier with 11 member schools. For the men, the top four individuals, not on a qualifying team, finishing in the top 15 advance to NAIA Nationals.
The NAIA National Cross Country Championships will be on November 19, 2021 in Vancouver, Washington.
