Day One of the GPAC Men's Golf Championships Complete at Dakota Dunes

(Dakota Dunes, South Dakota) – Hastings and Morningside hold the club house lead with 36 of 54 holes complete after day one in the 2026 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men's Golf Championships in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, at the Dakota Dunes Country Club.

The Broncos and Mustangs both shot +23 on the day in windy conditions at the Dunes for team totals of 599.  Hastings went +19 in round one and +4 in round two, with Morningside going +12 and +11 for their two rounds.  Defending champion Northwestern is third at +32 (608).  Dordt (+37) and Dakota Wesleyan (+45) round out the top five in the team race.

Max Nielsen from Hastings leads the individual race at +2 after going 72 and 74 on the day.  Qwenton Caldwell from Northwestern is in second (+3) with rounds of 73 and 74.  Peyton Bettcher from  Dakota Wesleyan third (+4) with rounds of 73 and 75.

Play resumes on Tuesday with split-tees starting at 9am.

The GPAC Team Champion will advance to the NAIA National Championships in Silvis, Illinois, May 12-15 at TPC Deere Run.  The individual champion (unless on winning team) will also advance to the NAIA Championships.
