Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Baseball Weekly Honors
Player – Evan Morrison, Hastings College (Infielder)
Hastings College infielder Evan Morrison is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports baseball player-of-the-week. Morrison, a junior from Medicine Hat, Canada, slugged five home runs during the week and broke the Hastings single-season home run record. He hit a grand slam and a three-run home run in the final game of the series at Waldorf, which the Broncos won 21-10. He went 9-for-23 with one double, five home runs, 17 RBIs, 11 runs, two walks, and four stolen bases. Morrison had splits of .391/.440/1.087 and recorded outs in all 34 fielding opportunities.
Pitcher – Alex Johnson, Concordia University
Alex Johnson of Concordia University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports pitcher-of-the-week. Johnson, a graduate student from Olathe, Kansas, rose to the top of Concordia's all-time strikeout list while making two starts last week. He went 2-0 and piled up 22 strikeouts in 11.2 innings. As part of his seven-inning complete game victory versus Northwestern, Johnson registered a career-high 15 strikeouts while breaking the school record for career strikeouts (currently 288). On the season, Johnson owns the NAIA's highest strikeout per nine inning rate among qualifying pitchers (15.07).
