![]() Shane Larson Comes to Dana From Fort Hays State
Dana College named Shane Larson as new head coach of the Viking women's basketball team. Larson has spent the last two years as the recruiting coordinator and assistant coach at Fort Hays State University in Kansas.
He's also had coaching stints at Piper High School, Washington High School, and his alma mater, Bethany College (KS). Larson replaces Brenda Mechels, who stepped down in May after six seasons.
"I felt right at home at Dana," commented Larson. "I really like the environment of a private liberal arts school. I want to thank Dr. Philipp and Coach Danenhauer for this opportunity."
"We had the opportunity to bring in a coach with experience at both the NAIA and NCAA levels to Dana College," said athletic director Bill Danenhauer. "He is ready to assume his first head coaching duty on the collegiate level. We are very excited to see what Coach Larson will bring to the Viking basketball program." Larson and his wife Jennie are in the process of moving to Blair and look to be settled by the end of July. He has already jumped into recruiting for the Vikings as well as running a youth camp at Fremont-Mills High School in Iowa.
